About
The Planetary Self
Hello there, My name is Max Hobbs and The Planetary Self is my brainchild. This website is where I am both developing and showcasing this concept. This is a labor of love for me and I plan on refining and expanding these ideas for the foreseeable future. All of the art and graphics found on the site are my own creations. I hope that they add some enjoyment to the experience and some clarity to the concepts I’m attempting to convey.
Communicating through multiple forms of media will allow me to continually hone my skills and improve the delivery. I strongly encourage you to share your thoughts with me and any ideas you have to make the site better. I hope to present these ideas to as many people who might benefit from them as possible. I’ve laid out the current vision and plans for the future on the mission page.
How I got here
I wasn’t always this philosophical or spiritually focused. This way of thinking resulted from spending a few decades living life quite differently and learning lessons along the way.
I grew up on an acreage well outside of a rural community in British Columbia. Religion was not a part of family life even though my grandfather was a Minister at a catholic church back in Ontario where my parents grew up. I think there might’ve been some slightly rebellious reasons for that on my father’s part.
I went to university at a technical school and for 18 years I worked as a construction manager at several different firms. For some reason, I always ended up switching jobs after about 3 or 4 years. Dissatisfaction would take hold of me around that time and I would soon find myself headed off to my next endeavor.
One particularly stressful occupation eventually caused me to adopt a meditation practice which I immediately saw benefits from. Meditation became part of my morning routine and since 2016 I’ve meditated nearly every single day. At first, the practice was very awkward and I was only practicing for around 5 – 10 minutes each morning. Over time, my meditative abilities continually improved and I recognized a myriad of fringe benefits from the practice. Eventually, the routine became a deep compulsion for me and there have been times when I would spend several hours meditating before starting my day.
The moment of insight
One morning my entire life changed. All at once, my entire connection with reality was altered. I describe this event as a metaphysical experience in which I was introduced to The Planetary Self. At first, there were no words to describe what had just happened to me. My mind was speechless. It was just a deeply profound sense of awe that was simultaneously a reconciliation of all of the questioning that had encombered me till that point. It’s a hard thing to describe but I have attempted to do so in this video.
All of my creative work is informed by this moment of insight. As a result of this event, I now find myself fueled with tenacious curiosity to explore this concept and a desire to develop it further.
